“We don’t care: Art as a fifth state power”

“The Center for Political Beauty (CPB) is an assault team that aims to establish moral beauty, political poetry and human greatness while aiming to preserve humanitarianism. The group’s basic premise is that the legacy of the Holocaust is rendered void by political apathy, the rejection of refugees and cowardice. It believes that Germany should not only learn from its history but also take action.”

The CPB is using the “most innovative forms of political performance art and an expanded approach to theatre” to raise awareness to important political issues. “From Bosnia-Herzegovina over Aleppo to the mountains of Melilla, the group’s actions are displaying the ways in which art can be a fifth state power.” According to them art must hurt, provoke and rise in protest; in short: aggressive humanism. During their keynote lecture the artists Marie Felicia Natonek and Joschka HĂ€rdtner from the Center for Political Beauty will present their actions and their ideas and speak on the social responsibility of the artist.

Within the application process you are asked to decide which working group you would like to join during the conference. You can state your three top preferences, but you will only be able to take part in one group, according to our capacities.

ISWI Open Space

Youth Future Project

ItÂŽs all about you to ‘Create your Space’. During this Open Space session participants will have the chance to get active by contributing their input. There will be no restrictions on topics or the kind of activities. After a short introduction of the basic ideas of the method participants will fill the space with whatever topics, questions, dreams, visions or knowledge they may bring with them. Be curious and open for everything that will happen during this Open Space Session.

The session will be hosted by members of the Youth Future Project e.V.

The Open Space principles are:

  • Whoever comes is the right people.
  • Whatever happens is the only thing that could have.
  • Whenever it starts is the right time.
  • When it’s over, it’s over.

In general, every participant should make use of the ‘law of two feet’:

“If at any time during our time together you find yourself in any situation where you are neither learning nor contributing, use your two feet, go someplace else.”

Date: Wednesday, 3 June 2015
Time: 1.00 pm – 5.00 pm
Location: Humboldtbau
